About Hearing Awareness Week
Hearing Awareness Week is an annual event always conducted in the last week of August. It provides an opportunity to raise community awareness of hearing impairment and ways to protect one’s hearing. The coordination of Hearing Awareness Week is a major event for Deafness Foundation working along side professionals from Better Hearing Australia (Victoria), Vicdeaf and Hear Service, Australian Hearing, Taralye and the Office of Hearing Services to organise events and community screenings throughout the week. Hearing Awareness Week also provides an opportunity for individuals who have a hearing impairment to share their experience and knowledge and help to create a greater understanding of their needs and aspirations. A theme is nominated by Deafness Forum the national peak body for Deafness in Australia and individual States organise events around the theme.
