Fundraising

The Deafness Foundation relies heavily on the income from fundraising to ensure that we are able to continue to provide support for the Deaf and hearing impaired in the community.

Initiatives include:

  • Butterfly badge campaign
  • Sale of entertainment books
  • Shopping tours
  • Chocolate sales
  • One off events

 Butterfly badges 
The Deafness Foundation designs and sells Butterfly Badges to raise public awareness and funds to support the Deaf and hearing impaired community.
The butterfly is the emblem of the Deafness Foundation because butterflies, too, are deaf and are very beautiful and much loved by the community. The badges are most attractive, have proven to be very popular and easy to sell.
The badges sell for just $2. There is a choice of five color combinations and the designs change each year.
Badges are sold on consignment. You do not have to pay for the badges when placing an order, simply return funds raised and any unsold badges after two months.

  Hearing Awareness Week Appeal - August

Butterfly badges are sold by participating Australian hearing services, audiology centres and organisations throughout Australian during July to September.

  Get your school involved

If you would like to sell badges in your school please download an order form.

A teacher's resource kit with information and activities about hearing is also available.

If your school has Deaf or hearing impaired students you may qualify for a grant under our Financial Grants Scheme and individual students may by eligible for an Education Encouragement Award.


  IGA supports the Deafness Foundation

IGA is a major sponsor of the May Butterfly Badge Appeal. During the month of May badges are available at all Victoria IGA stores. In 2006 IGA raised $80,000. Thanks to the generous support from IGA the Deafness Foundation is able to fund additional projects supporting the Deaf and hearing impaired.


  Buy a butterfly in your local community

Many audiology practices, health care centres and retail outlets kindly offer to sell Butterfly Badges throughout the year.

The ever-popular entertainment book is available from the Deafness Foundation.
